Each week, I receive phone calls from women and men looking for answers about relationships.
Let me begin by saying this: I'm not a therapist. I'm a strategist. Relationships are one of the areas I work in because I've spent years studying, observing, getting certified and trained, and helping people navigate them.
One thing I've noticed is this...Many of the calls I receive from women begin with a list of everything their man isn't doing.
"I don't feel safe."
"I don't feel loved."
"He doesn't understand me."
"He doesn't make me happy."
As I listen, I often realize something deeper is happening. Many women are asking a man to do something that is impossible for him.
He cannot make you feel safe. Yes, a healthy man should create an environment of trust, consistency, and emotional security. But the deep feeling of safety begins within you.
If your nervous system has been shaped by abandonment, betrayal, rejection, or childhood wounds, no person can permanently erase that.
Healing is an inside job. The same is true with love. So many women tell me, "I just want to feel loved."
But here's my question...Do you know what love actually looks like?
If your love tank is constantly empty, it doesn't always mean no one loves you. Sometimes it means your love tank has a leak.
No matter how much someone pours into it, it never stays full because the leak has never been repaired. Those leaks often come from our earliest relationships.
An absent father. An emotionally unavailable parent. Past betrayals. Broken relationships. Repeated rejection.
And because of those experiences, many of us never learned what healthy love actually looks like.
Think about it. Someone taught you how to tie your shoes. Ride a bicycle. Drive a car. Balance a checkbook. Build a career. But who actually taught you how to love? Who taught you how to receive love? Who taught you what healthy love feels like?
For most of us...No one. Instead, we learned by watching. And unfortunately, many of us were watching dysfunction. Conflict. Silence. Control. Abandonment.
People staying together without connection. Or people leaving altogether. No wonder so many adults struggle in relationships. We're trying to build healthy love with an unhealthy blueprint.
There's another mistake I see women make. Many expect their man to communicate the way their girlfriends do. But men are not women.
They process differently. They hear differently. They solve problems differently. I've even given it a code name...Mandom.
Mandom is learning how men communicate. You say one thing... He hears something completely different. Then you conclude he wasn't listening.
But often...He was listening. He just interpreted your words through a different lens.
When you learn to speak "Mandom," your conversations change. Arguments decrease. Misunderstandings lessen. Connection grows.
Here's another truth. It is not your man's job to love your wounds away. His love may support your healing. It may encourage your healing. It may inspire your healing. But it cannot replace your healing.
Healing is your responsibility. One of the greatest gifts relationships give us is a mirror. Relationships reveal us. They expose our triggers. They uncover our fears. They shine a light on the places we still need healing.
Perhaps your last relationship wasn't simply about someone breaking your heart. Perhaps it revealed the places your heart was already wounded. That's valuable information.
Because if you can't name the wound...You can't heal it.
Many people avoid relationships because they don't want to get hurt again. But if you're always flying solo...Always surrounded only by friends...You may never see what still needs healing. Without a mirror...Some wounds remain hidden.
And finally...Your man is not your savior. His job is not to rescue you. Not to complete you. Not to become the source of your happiness.
Healthy men are attracted to women who already possess joy, purpose, peace, and a life of their own. They don't want the impossible assignment of becoming the reason you are happy every single day. That's far too heavy for anyone to carry.
A healthy relationship isn't about someone completing what's missing. It's about two whole people building something beautiful together. His role isn't to fill an empty love tank.
His role is to add to the love already overflowing. Not to create your happiness...But to share in it. Not to rescue you... But to walk beside you.
And perhaps most importantly...To choose you. Because here's another truth. A man can love you...And still not choose you. Love and commitment are not always the same thing.
So here's my question. Does this message stir something inside you? Does it challenge you? Does it invite you to grow?
If so...You may finally be ready for the kind of love you've always wanted.
If this message immediately makes you defensive... If your first instinct is to argue every point... If you find yourself saying, "But what about him?" before asking, "What about me?"... Then perhaps this simply isn't your season yet.
Growth begins the moment we become willing to look inward.
Today, I chose to speak to the women. Soon, I'll speak to the men. Because healthy relationships require growth from both.
